For the price, this camera is really good. And it comes with cable too. The cable has the power in it also, so if you want to extend the run, you have to buy special cable, but enough is included so that's unlikely. The video is pretty good in both day and night. I have a different camera that has better video and an adjustable lens, but I paid almost 4 times as much. Can't go wrong at this price.

I have to give this 4 starts. Easy to hook up, works great, good color,
seems to be within specs. I also got a cv31, but it is 420 lines, really makes a difference.
OK, why the 4 stars and not 5, It seems like the focus is off just a little bit. Other than that, great for the price.
Mount is great. Comes with cable and power supply ready to go.
For the price I am going to take it apart and see if there is any way to fix the focus, if so, then its 5 stars.

Might be okay if it was used as a baby monitor, but as far as a security camera, I wouldn't recomend it. For one the receiver feels undurable. Cheap plastic. Has the feel of a fake cell phone toy. The camera takes a decent image, but like other reviewers commented, the night vision is disappointing. If your looking for a security camera don't waste your money. spend it on a real security system.

I purchased this product after I read reviews here. The camera and monitor work well with AC adopters rather than batteries.
I put front of entrance and inside of my house to see outside of my front yard.
Last year neighbors had three thieves I decided to put three cameras.
I am thinking another one to outside of garage.
Yesterday I tested with 9v batteries for cameras and AAA batteries for monitor.
It was working for a few hours but it lost views.
I adjusted contrast and color but it did not change.
I replaced batteries to AC adopters and all got views again.
I am using extension cords to cameras.
Night visions are really good to see outside and people's faces.
I recommended this camera with monitor at my private blog, because it is so easy to set up , foreigners can do this.

This Christmas gift was given to my Neice(7) at a family gathering. She opened it and tossed it aside, only to come back to it at the end. She wrote notes the rest of the day on the backs of Christmas cards, and had a blast. I saw her last night, and she was excited to tell me that she had given one to her friend so that they could trade notes. You can pretty well forget about the secret paper/note inside. It could be ued once, or twice. No one would want to cut pieces of paper the size of ribbon to replace the used paper. The compartment is to compact to forgive improperly cut sizes. I whole heartedly recommend this item, based on size, value, portability, and Joy to a young girls Christmas.

Customer Review: What's the best Optics?

Answer to the Title Question: the one that you have onhand.

I like to carry "optics" when I travel (touring), when I go out into the wild (for sights and birding), and I would always have some optics on me when I go tactical (like on my rifle, separately, or specialized, like NVGs). After messing around with various designs, magnifications, sizes, weights, and extra features, like lens coatings, I finally decided that the most practical utility vs. weight-size ratio was in the 8 X 21 or 8 X 20 compact monocular design. For me it's about the perfect balance of practicality, cost and portability/deployability... afterall, you may have the best $1000 Zeiss optics in the world, but if it's sitting in it's protective case deep in your backpack... well, it ain't doin' you any good. So it was for me. I carried around various nice (read: expensive) binoculars and spotting scopes for years, dutifully packed away in my pack, or the exterior side pocket of my pack, or on my belt in a holster, or as this huge 2.5 pound anchor around my neck. But really what I wanted was the ability to quickly get a closer, clearer view of something (birds, terrain features, points of interest) mainly for confirmation. In fact, sometimes it was just to scope out a street sign when I was navigating. Through the years I downsized to more practical sizes, and finally, I ended up with 8 X 20 monocular as my most practical solution.

With my monocular in a quickly accessible mini-pouch on my packstrap, I can whip out my optics in like 3 seconds and be already focusing in whatever object caught my eye, while my friends are still digging around in packs for their binoculars or more often, not even bothering to take the trouble. And just as quickly, I can put it back into it's case and be hiking. I'll tell you, it's made a world of difference to me.... seeing things more closely, at will, conveniently and quickly.

It's true the field of view for this monocular is limited. It simply is not large enough (diameter) to pull in a whole lot of light, so forget about low-light or night viewing (that's not to say that I haven't enjoyed some stargazing or looking at the moon with this scope). And, as has been pointed out, it's not even the best ergonomic design for focusing (without practice). But, for me, it's a functional, utilitarian design and the decent pricing makes it a device that I don't terribly fret about damaging. As a matter of fact, I have 3 and I've only destroyed 1 (so far) and parted it out for repairs.

There are many nice monocular designs out there. All I'm saying is that this one works for me.... cheap, practical, functional.

I purchased this unit to keep in my car for fast spotting. Its compact and very easy to focus. Person with big fingers will have problems. Its only good for day time and general spotting. The magnifacation is not much, but the view is pretty clear for such an inexpensive unit. I use a monocular over a binocular because I have trouble setting up the view without having double vision. This unit is fast to spot objects and easy to focus but not to strong, so I would only recommend it for emergency.

Customer Review: Inferior product or just bad luck?

I studied this product including the reviews for a couple of months prior to placing an order. My understanding was that overall it is a good system for the price with 4.5 out of 5 star review ratings from the consumers. The negative sides mentioned in the reviews were the design for the AC adapter where it requires you to remove the batteries and leave the cover open and the possible signal interference due to 2.4 Ghz spectrum which could cause some signal interference. I didn't care if the picture quality wasn't the best, since it is only intended to be used for monitoring the baby when we are downstairs. I ordered the first unit and it would not function. No signal or sound. Returned it and obtained a replacement with the exact same issue. Called the SVAT customer service and even though they claim that it is a 24-hour technical service line, it is just a person taking messages and then they call you back - in my case 4 days later (to be fair, I called on Friday night and they returned the call on Tuesday). After explaining to them the defect and hoping for a resolution, I was told that the unit is defected and to return it. So, maybe it was just my luck that 2 units in a row were defected out of the box...but needless to say, SVAT is out of the question for me from now on.

Wonderful color during the afternoon naps or early evening sleep time. Extra camera to watch backyard play...when mom or dad are not standing there. Watch the to be three year old learn to crawl out of bed or the crib. I did not expect true night vision but sound is excellent.
