Customer Review: Webroot Spy Sweeper's Unethical Installation of the ASK TOOLBAR

I have been using WEBROOT Spy Sweeper for over a year and, unfortunately, just extended my subscription to the program. After having done that I was requested to allow a free upgrade (which is routine for the program) but in doing so WEBROOT installed the ASK TOOLBAR, which is as far as I am concerned nothing more than a advertisement program, not a true search vehicle. I had been using successfully the MOZILLA FIREFOX/GOOGLE setup, which I was totally satisfied and familiar with.

There are 7 issues here.

(1) It was unethical for WEBROOT to install a feature like a new toolbar on my computer without my permission. THAT IS WHAT THE PROGRAMS DO THAT WEBROOT IS SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING ME FROM!

(2) The program WEBROOT installed changed the interface with my computer, complicating my use of it and causing me a lot of emotional upset: frustration, annoyance, anger.

(3) Being basically a novice with the computer, I struggled to getting my computer back to the way it was, but never being able to do that with complete success. Ever since I got rid of the ASK TOOLBAR and got back to MOZILLA FIREFOX, when my computer starts up, my web pages won't load automatically as they did before.

(4) Now when WEBROOT requests to update to a new version of its program I don't allow it because I have lost confidence in the program. This does not improve the security of my computer.

(5) WEBROOT installed a program ASK TOOLBAR that is inferior to the one I was using before, my MOZILLA FIREFOX/GOOGLE set up.

(6) WEBROOT has caused me to waste a lot of my time fixing the program, figuring out what program I will replace WEBROOT with and writing this complaint, in addition to making using the computer/internet even more of a headache than it already is. WEBROOT's job was to make it EASIER!

(7) The WEBROOT program was recommended by BEST BUY when I bought my computer. I wish BEST BUY would first investigate the products their people recommend.

KUDOS to AMAZON.COM for providing customer evaluations with the products they sell. I use the evaluations all the time (though mostly for books).

Advice: Don't get too greedy, especially when you're already making a bundle. Think more about improving (rather than degrading) your product and helping (rather than frustrating) the customer.

Having just completed building this thing, I'm amazed at the reviews on here. Only one mentions how terrible the design of putting this together is. Unless you have very slender, loooooooooooong fingers, you will find screwing the nuts/bolts together in some literally nigh-impossible places to be a real nightmare. Yes, I've build many things over the years, and I know how to use a pair of needle-nose pliers, but wow.......

One perfect example: the kit comes with (4) 1/2" screws, and it's illustrated in the list of parts. BUT YOU NEED 5. The directions tell you to install 4 to connect the arm. That's fine, but then it tells you to use another one to connect the antenna holder. Just an example.....

anyway, once i got it built, it worked. For about 5 minutes. It acted like the batteries were dead. I was sure they were new, but what the heck. I put even "newer" ones in. Drove around the house with it for about 15 minutes, hooked the camera up. Then it died again. I don't know, maybe I hooked something up wrong, but i don't think so. Tomorrow I'll see what the deal is. I can't believe that this thing would suck battery life THAT fast.

Overall, it's a cool toy, but with the battery life looking ridiculous (as i've read on other reviews), and the ridiculousness of the assembley, I can't really recommend this.

Customer Review: More RC than Robot, but still fun

I'm sure that having partly assembled is to get those who don't have the patience to wait for it to get built, but either way it was fun putting it together. i found that by putting some masking tape on the wrench so the nuts don't fall through makes it easier to hold them in place when trying to put bolts on. Was a little disappointed in not having programming but I am an R/C guy and love 6 wheel drive. Have not tried sand yet but it goes well on most everything else. Receiver was bad as they have an issue with some of them, but the great customer service from the company is more than acceptable. A+++ Customer Service, I got about 4 emails one day from them, they respond quickly. Although I paid the $5 to ship it to them, 150 ft range is better than 5 ft range. I find lithium batteries the best for lasting. energizer is what I run though I am considering getting a rechargeable battery pack onto it and wondering if the extra voltage will blow it or not, may have to rewire it a little. Anyway, good fun, good product, good customer service.

As others have said, this is an admirable, affordable basic security camera. But we all know the real test of a product is the company behind it. If you have a question, how responsive and helpful is that company?

Sharx Security wrote the book on customer service, as far as I'm concerned! I contacted Sharx via e-mail -- late on a Saturday night, if you can believe it -- and had a personal (not auto) reply within a few minutes! It took several e-mails to resolve my question, and each reply from Sharx was timely and thoughtful.

And, yes, Sharx presented an appropriate solution to my question, resisting any temptation to say "That's not our policy" or "We've never done that before, and we're not about to start doing it now!"

Responsive, prompt, flexible, knowledgable... and an American company!

If, in the future, I consider upgrading to a more sophisticated, more expensive security camera, I won't look any further than Sharx Security.

bought this to go onto an R/C blimp, but the 9v battery alone was too heavy. The image quality is OK. Nothing great by any means. The colors come and go and bright lights turn black. Put it on an Awana Grand Prix car (like Pinewood Derby) and the kids had a blast watching it go down the track. Ended up just cutting off the connectors and soldering the battery wires directly to the camera wires. The camera was on the hood of the car and the battery stuck out the back. All the wires were run down through the car and underneath. Took 2nd place in design.

I have been using Webroot products for about 3 years now and have not had any virus or malware problems the entire time. I recommend the spy sweeper and antivirus blend as it gives the best protection. The vendor I bought this through provided excellent service. If you are not running an AV and spy sweeper program, this is a great alternative to Norton and others.

Customer Review: 6.0 and higher is terrible and bad tech support

Fistly the company who used to have great tech support, now charges for expert tech - no long wait support. People who want to use the free tech suport option will have to wait an average of an hour - for low level tech help. They do not answer/reply tech support emails sent to them.
The software worked well with version 5 on XP Windows Operating Systems.
When I Upgraded to version 6 and higher - it totally slowed my system down to a crawl!!! A big CPU and MEMORY HOG!!! I have a very powerful system with lots of ram.
I uninstalled version 6 and went back to version 5.8 which runs with an acceptable amount of system resources.
The company when I first started using the product had great free no long wait tech support - well thats gone - no more!!
When my subscription ends, I will switch to another program probably Zonealarm extreme or bitdefender.
This software and the company are no longer any good!!!!
I will no longer recconmend this software to anyone.
