41tYPGfVEGL. SL500 Spycraft: The Secret History of the CIAs Spytechs, from Communism to al QaedaFrom two men who know better than anyone how espionage really works, an unprecedented history?heavily illustrated with neverbefore- seen images?of the CIA?s most secretive operations and the gadgets that made them possible.

It is a world where the intrigue of reality exceeds that of fiction. What is an invisible photo used for? What does it take to build a quiet helicopter? How does one embed a listening device in a cat? If these sound like challenges for Q, James Bond?s fictional gadget-master, think again. They?re all real-life devices created by the CIA?s Office of Technical Service?an ultrasecretive department that combines the marvels of state-of-the-art technology with the time-proven traditions of classic espionage. And now, in the first book ever written about this office, the former director of OTS teams up with an internationally renowned intelligence historian to take readers into the laboratory of espionage.

Spycraft tells amazing life and death stories about this littleknown group, much of it never before revealed. Against the backdrop of some of America?s most critical periods in recent history?including the Cold War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the war on terror?the authors show the real technical and human story of how the CIA carries out its missions.

Customer Review: The Kindergarten Version

Don't be deceived by the many positive reviews of this book. There is nothing new here; every bit of this information is already in the public record, and most of it is available in many other (and better) books, including several by the same author. You can get the same information, and much more entertainment, just by walking through the Spy Museum in Washington, DC!

It's not wrong, and not inaccurate; just Old News, that has been written about over and over again, and this book doesn't add a thing.

Customer Review: Good Book

A bit slow at times, but incredible what they did in a few short years.

The Unlikely Spy

51ZuXzBv%2BgL. SL500 The Unlikely Spy"In wartime," Winston Churchill wrote, "truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies." For Britain's counterintelligence operations, this meant finding the unlikeliest agent imaginable-a history professor named Alfred Vicary, handpicked by Churchill himself to expose a highly dangerous, but unknown, traitor. The Nazis, however, have also chosen an unlikely agent: Catherine Blake, a beautiful widow of a war hero, a hospital volunteer-and a Nazi spy under direct orders from Hitler to uncover the Allied plans for D-Day...

Customer Review: A D-Day Nazi-Allied Forces Espionage Thriller

"The Unlikely Spy" is a very good WWII espionage spy thriller. It's long - 725 pages, but rarely does it drag, and most of the time the story is interesting, intriguing, well-crafted, and often compelling. There are only a few instances of a solution to a dilemma faced by one of the characters that is too pat or too contrived (a problem often found in novels such as this). The characters, for the most part, remain true to their personality, training and mission.

Only the two main German spies (Horst and Anna) fall out of their roles glaringly one or two times: one such moment is the unfortunate "street" fight with a local Brit that Horst gets himself into; the other is when Anna begins to doubt herself, her mission, herself, and begins to gain a conscience. These two German spies are clever, well-trained and effective in what they do, and even when they are humanly inconsistent, they are convincing and exceptional. One does not root for them, but one does rather admire them. Anna, in particular, is complex and complicated, a beautiful woman with a somewhat tortured past. But she has been trained to kill and kill she does.

The one American (Peter) is true to his character almost unfailingly, as are the British main characters, especially the very well-drawn likeable Vicary and the more mysterious cad Boothby.

The real-life historical figures, Eisenhower, Churchill and all the usual German demons (like Canaris, Himmler, and Hitler) play big to small roles, as is appropriate for the story, except for the main German background player, Major Vogel who runs Anna, whom he placed in Britain in 1938, 6 years before she was needed by the 3rd Reich to unravel allied plans for D-Day in early 1944.

It's all about D-Day, and this story proved a timely read here in June 2009 during the days leading up to and after the recent 65th anniversary ceremony celebrating the costly but successful Allied invasion of France in 1944. This story revolves around German and Allied hand-wringing over where and when the Allied invasion would occur. Would the Germans discover that it would occur at Normandy --- or as the Allies wanted them to believe - at Calais? That is the entire nexus of the story.

In the end, I liked this book better than (though it is greatly different from) Michael Dobbs' books about Churchill in the same time period (see "Never Surrender"). Silva apparently doesn't have the pressure to try to teach history, except as it is incidentally important to his story. Then he gets it right. But make no mistake: this is fiction - as are all of Dobbs' works.

The plot is complicated (but not too complex), and it is filled with engaging, distinctive characters. I was amazed to find myself on page 500-something, absorbed and engaged in the story. Silva does a reasonably good job writing women, though his forte is men.

I was struck with how this story is an excellent mix of plain old police detective work and subtle ruthless intelligence work. Silva mixes the two very, very well.

I think it is probably about 150 pages too long. What makes it long is Silva's penchant for a great amount of background detail - all interesting, mind you, but nonetheless perhaps not so much is needed to move the story forward. It is also surprisingly "neutral" as to which side holds the cards, brains and skill - with plenty of blunders on both sides.

In the last ½ of the book there is a plenitude of bloody, appalling and mindless killings and murders, as the 2 German spies fight to escape MI-5 and the entire Allied intelligence apparatus bearing down on them after their cover is blown. Once you get over Silva's occasional invented and too-pat circumstantial events that actually help the Brits run down these spies, the story picks up momentum and becomes a page turner. Both sides make countless errors and missteps. Just because you want the Brits to win out, does not imbue them with infallibility.

The book's major flaw, I think, is the somewhat pedestrian and not-very-creative finale or ultimate resolution. I would have hoped that the last 125 pages would live up to the first 600 pages in creativity and cleverness, but they did not. While not exactly disappointing, the conclusion left me wanting something a little better. It is for this reason that I do not give this book a 5 rating.

All-in-all, if you like WWII espionage historical fiction, this book is a great read. It's brutal, realistic, and a fun romp in 1944 England and Germany, great for vicarious re-living (or first-living) of that marvelous time in our history. This is a great book to read on a holiday, on an airplane, or when you are free to indulge 2 or 3 days to escape into the greatest era of old-fashioned espionage -- World War II. This is not the economical, terse beauty that Alan Furst might write (see his "Spies of Warsaw"), but nonetheless it is very, very good. I give it a 4+.

Customer Review: The Unlikely Spy

Good, complex, suspense/spy thriller. On par with Day of the Jackal; flipping from the Englsih MI5 bureau to the German Ahwer spy bureau during the planning of the Normandy invasion of the Second World War.

Minox DSC Digital Spy Camera

21owpvdySnL. SL500 Minox DSC Digital Spy CameraDSC is the name of the new mini MINOX camera model: Digital Spy Camera. This outstanding masterpiece in minimalist design and photo technology packs remarkable features into dimensions of just 86 x 29 x 20 mm. With a resolution of five million pixels it can compete with traditional digital cameras with ease. The bright viewfinder allows spontaneous, fast shots, even in critical light conditions. In twilight the integrated flash switches on automatically. In total these features make the new DSC a very sound optical notebook.

The system has an additional external flash that can be connected to the side of the DSC. And to provide the user with the accustomed convenience of a display for viewing film and image results the flash has an integrated 1.5 inch TFT LCD monitor. The image data can be saved on micro SD memory cards of up to 16 GB, in addition to the internal memory.

Customer Review: a small gem - but demanding

Mine worked right out of the box - and made very nice pictures. Obviously, these cannot be viewed in really big formats, but they look great up to approx. 1600x1200. However, making a good picture is a rather demanding task, as wobbles and wrong lighting show very quickly. So you either have a very steady hand or you develop a knack for finding surfaces to stabilize your DSC :)

The battery does use up quickly (30-50 pics), but also recharges in 20 minutes. In addition, you may want to buy a converter for recharging with the USB cable at any power outlet.

The flash seems too strong at short distances, but I rarely use it, as pics are great even in low light, if the camera is held stable enough.

In total, this is a nice little gem which demands some knowledge of photography for good results.

Customer Review: major disappointment

I have been using Minox cameras and equipment for many years, but this new camera is not up to the standards of previous Minox products.

The images are very poor quality. The camera claims 5 mega pixels, but only delivers approximately 3. The unit i received was defective right from the factory. the built in flash didn't activate even in total darkness. the clip on flash unit didn't operate at all and the screen mounted in the flash unit was totally inoperable. you could not review pics except on your computer.

the camera didn't come with a real charger or charger cable and must be connected to your computer to charge the battery. the battery also holds a very small charge and discharges quickly.

i plan to return my camera and do NOT recommend this unit to anyone, particularly if you expect the same quality of camera as a Minox 8 1/2 x11 camera. v this item is little more than an overpriced toy!

51wsHpi1jDL. SL500 Spies: The Rise and Fall of the KGB in America

This stunning book, based on KGB archives that have never come to light before, provides the most complete account of Soviet espionage in America ever written. In 1993, former KGB officer Alexander Vassiliev was permitted unique access to Stalin-era records of Soviet intelligence operations against the United States. Years later, living in Britain, Vassiliev retrieved his extensive notebooks of transcribed documents from Moscow. With these notebooks John Earl Haynes and Harvey Klehr have meticulously constructed a new, sometimes shocking, historical account.

Along with general insights into espionage tactics and the motives of Americans who spied for Stalin, Spies resolves specific, long-seething controversies. The book confirms, among many other things, that Alger Hiss cooperated with Soviet intelligence over a long period of years, that journalist I. F. Stone worked on behalf of the KGB in the 1930s, and that Robert Oppenheimer was never recruited by Soviet intelligence. Spies also uncovers numerous American spies who were never even under suspicion and satisfyingly identifies the last unaccounted for American nuclear spies. Vassiliev tells the story of the notebooks and his own extraordinary life in a gripping introduction to the volume.

Customer Review: Flawed but Interesting

Vassiliev's notebooks offer a signicant contribution to understanding Soviet espionage in the 1930s and 40s. However, the interpretations and narratives by Haynes and Klehr often lack logic. As a previous reviewer noted, it is certainly arguable that there was no "fall" of the KGB in America. The early generation of ideologically-motivated spies described in this book may have been revealed or retired, but there were many, like the Walkers, Hanssen, and Ames, who came later. Comments by Haynes and Klehr unfairly criticize the FBI. In one passage, after describing Bentley's statements to the FBI about Julius, they claim that the FBI "overlooked an elementary step. No agent ever checked with the Knickerbocker Village rental management office, where he would have quickly learned that a Julius Rosenberg had been renting an apartment there in 1942." This is a ridiculous statement. Knickerbocker Village, a huge development built in the 1930s that covered 4 blocks, had 1,593 apartments. A search for a tenant using only the first name of Julius would hardly have been done "quickly" in an age of paper records. Although the meeting between Golos and Julius took place "near the Knickerbocker Village apartments," the FBI couldn't be sure that Julius actually lived there.
Despite Haynes and Klehr, Vassiliev's material is interesting and solves some mysteries of the era.

Customer Review: Important work but a bit flawed

Very important piece of work for those interested in soviet espionage in America. There is a "before" and "after" Spies. Like they said : at last, Alger Hiss's case is closed. Well, to me it was closed a long ago, and die-hard liberals will never believe Vassiliev is for real anyway. But who gives a damn about them ?

That being said, i have several remarks :

1) The book title is too optimistic. KGB fall in America in the 1950s ? Bull****. Like the phoenix, the KGB (the real one, that begins in 1954), has many lives. Many walk-ins from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s... amongst them Johnny Walker, Robert Hanssen, Aldrich Ames... can prove that. And we have to wait another what ? sixty years before learning the whole truth ? It sucks. I just see the 40s as being the golden age of soviet spying in America, but the future is still to be ascertained (?)

2) The book is way too dry. There is no contextualization whatsoever, only names, names, names... It cannont interest any people beyond the ordinary spy buff. That's not a book that grabs you during sleepless nights. Sorry folks, but too much information can kill information. This books way too often reads like a spy catalogue, with sub-chapters titled with spy names (except for the last chapter, one the spy practices). So what ? Another spy, ok, there always be more, that's not the F**** point, you have to put it into context. We need some depth here, not front page magazine story.

That being said, you cannot miss this one if you're into espionage stuff.

Certain Prey

51210895D2L. SL500 Certain PreyThe #1 New York Times Bestselling series featuring Lucas Davenport.

Of all the criminals that Lucas Davenport has hunted, none has been as frighteningly intelligent as the woman who's hunting him now.

Customer Review: Just okay

This entry in the Lucas Davenport series starts out great, with a professional hit-woman coming to town. And, for the first half of the book, the pro killer and the crazy lawyer who hired her make a good pair. By midway, the story has collapsed in on itself a bit, and becomes plodding. It tries, but never quite pulls itself out of the slump.

There aren't any real pieces of character development, in terms of the main characters, in this book, and that felt out of place. If the author had replaced Lucas and Co. with another set of generic characters, this one would have worked quite well as a stand-alone.

Customer Review: Reviewed for Midwest Book Review

As a teenager, Clara Rinker ran away from home and an abusive stepfather. While working as a dancer in a strip club, Clara is raped but plots her vengeance and kills the man who assaulted her. This begins a long career for Clara as a hired killer. Carmel Loan is a successful defense attorney in Minneapolis, a woman who is used to getting what she wants. And she wants Hale Allen, but standing in her way is Allen's wife. Through a third-party, Carmel hires Clara to kill Allen's wife, at which point, Lucas Davenport steps into the picture. Before Clara can enjoy her new relationship with Allen, the liaison she used to contact Clara tries to blackmail Carmel, so Carmel hires Clara personally to take care of this matter. From this point, things begin to unravel, which requires Clara and Carmel to team up and commit more murders. All the while, Davenport and his crew are one step behind the two killers, with no evidence to tie either one to any of the murders.

This is the tenth book in the Prey series by John Sandford, which remains as fresh at this point as at the beginning. Lucas Davenport is an engaging character, an intelligent and intense investigator who enjoys his career chasing killers. Although there is no actual mystery to figure out here, which marks this as more of a thriller, the chase by Davenport and several strong secondary characters is fine-tuned and all the more enjoyable to follow.

Customer Review: Webroot Spy Sweeper's Unethical Installation of the ASK TOOLBAR

I have been using WEBROOT Spy Sweeper for over a year and, unfortunately, just extended my subscription to the program. After having done that I was requested to allow a free upgrade (which is routine for the program) but in doing so WEBROOT installed the ASK TOOLBAR, which is as far as I am concerned nothing more than a advertisement program, not a true search vehicle. I had been using successfully the MOZILLA FIREFOX/GOOGLE setup, which I was totally satisfied and familiar with.

There are 7 issues here.

(1) It was unethical for WEBROOT to install a feature like a new toolbar on my computer without my permission. THAT IS WHAT THE PROGRAMS DO THAT WEBROOT IS SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING ME FROM!

(2) The program WEBROOT installed changed the interface with my computer, complicating my use of it and causing me a lot of emotional upset: frustration, annoyance, anger.

(3) Being basically a novice with the computer, I struggled to getting my computer back to the way it was, but never being able to do that with complete success. Ever since I got rid of the ASK TOOLBAR and got back to MOZILLA FIREFOX, when my computer starts up, my web pages won't load automatically as they did before.

(4) Now when WEBROOT requests to update to a new version of its program I don't allow it because I have lost confidence in the program. This does not improve the security of my computer.

(5) WEBROOT installed a program ASK TOOLBAR that is inferior to the one I was using before, my MOZILLA FIREFOX/GOOGLE set up.

(6) WEBROOT has caused me to waste a lot of my time fixing the program, figuring out what program I will replace WEBROOT with and writing this complaint, in addition to making using the computer/internet even more of a headache than it already is. WEBROOT's job was to make it EASIER!

(7) The WEBROOT program was recommended by BEST BUY when I bought my computer. I wish BEST BUY would first investigate the products their people recommend.

KUDOS to AMAZON.COM for providing customer evaluations with the products they sell. I use the evaluations all the time (though mostly for books).

Advice: Don't get too greedy, especially when you're already making a bundle. Think more about improving (rather than degrading) your product and helping (rather than frustrating) the customer.

Customer Review: more problems than it solved

Running Windows XP Pro I had more problems installing and updating the software than what was reasonable.

Cons
-40 minute wait for tech help
-problems installing on Win XP - tech support resolved
-the program removed itself from my start menu - tech support was unable to resolve this
-while trying to manually update the program would remove itself from my start menu and turn itself off

Pro
-English speaking tech help (1 for 2 as far as being helpful)
-showed numerous items blocked

I won't ever buy another Webroot program.

5171DV0YMNL. SL500 Triple Cross: How bin Ladens Master Spy Penetrated the CIA, the Green Berets, and the FBI and Why Patrick Fitzgerald Failed to Stop Him

"This is the most dangerous man I have ever met. We cannot let this man out on the street."

—Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, 1997

In the years leading to the 9/11 attacks, no single agent of al Qaeda was more successful in compromising the U.S. intelligence community than Ali Mohamed. A former Egyptian army captain, Mohamed succeeded in infiltrating the CIA in Europe, the Green Berets at Fort Bragg, and the FBI in California—even as he helped to orchestrate the al Qaeda campaign of terror that culminated in 9/11. As investigative reporter Peter Lance demonstrates in this gripping narrative, senior U.S. law enforcement officials—including the now-celebrated U.S. attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who personally interviewed Mohamed long before he was brought to ground—were powerless to stop him. In the annals of espionage, few men have moved between the hunters and the hunted with as much audacity as Ali Mohamed. For almost two decades, the former Egyptian army commando succeeded in living a double life. Brazenly slipping past watch lists, he moved in and out of the U.S. with impunity, marrying an American woman, becoming a naturalized citizen, and posing as an FBI informant—all while acting as chief of security for Osama bin Laden and Ayman Al-Zawahiri. Known to his fellow terrorists as Ali Amiriki, or "Ali the American," Mohamed gained access to the most sensitive intelligence in the U.S. counterterrorism arsenal while brokering terror summits, planning bombing missions, and training jihadis in bomb building, assassination, the creation of sleeper cells, and other acts of espionage.Building on the investigation he first chronicled in his previous books, 1000 Years for Revenge and Cover Up, Lance uses Mohamed to trace the untold story of al Qaeda's rise in the 1980s and 1990s. Incredibly, Mohamed, who remains in custodial witness protection today, has never been sentenced for his crimes. He exists under a veil of secrecy—a living witness to how the U.S. intelligence community was outflanked for years by the terror network.

From his first appearance on the FBI's radar in 1989—training Islamic extremists on Long Island—to his presence in the database of Operation Able Danger eighteen months before 9/11, this devious triple agent was the one terrorist they had to sweep under the rug. Filled with news-making revelations, Triple Cross exposes the incompetence and duplicity of the FBI and Justice Department before 9/11 . . . and raises serious questions about how many more secrets the Feds may still be hiding.

Customer Review: Just When You Think You've Heard It All

I'd read (and just re-read) "Cover Up" and thought that made one of the most compelling cases for showing what the "official story" completely ignored, whitewashed or didn't go near.

I'm only halfway into this and my jaw is on the floor. The first reviewer was spot-on when they wrote this is the "Woodward and Bernstein" report that one of the Jersey Girls was openly hoping for, but didn't get.

Using this book and the information in Paul Thompson's 9/11 timeline, we finally get at least a CLEARER picture of what led to 9/11, but with more questions unanswered still. And that picture bears no resemblance to that of the official 9/11 report.

This is a MUST-READ for 9/11 historians. I've read dozens of books on the subject but at this point I'd tell people to read this FIRST.

Customer Review: Triple Cross proves the "Peter Principle" of management

Triple Cross: How bin Laden's Master Spy Penetrated the CIA, the Green Berets, and the FBI--and Why Patrick Fitzgerald Failed to Stop Him
The author has written a very disturbing book that proves the management theory about how incompetents seem to rise to the surface in some management positions.
"I'm in charge, you aren't, don't question my abilities or insult me with your suggestions or offer me any of your 'obviously substandard' opinions."
Unfortunately, the management discussed here involves people our government has hired to oversee the safety of our country and its citizens. The author provides us with solid resource documentation for his findings and conclusions. It will both anger as well as frighten you with the examples of government incompetence and collusion designed to cover up the incompetence. This is demonstrated at the field and supervisory levels of action. The Congress and oversight agenciies it creates and the appointees of those agencies aren't interested in finding faults and causing corrections so that future mistakes can be avoided. Instead they use appointees who are actually part of the problem and have selfish personal interests in covering up and shifting blame away from themselves.

Eddie Chapman was a charming criminal, a con man, and a philanderer. He was also one of the most remarkable double agents Britain has ever produced. Inside the traitor was a man of loyalty; inside the villain was a hero. The problem for Chapman, his spymasters, and his lovers was to know where one persona ended and the other began. Based on recently declassified files, Agent Zigzag tells Chapman’s full story for the first time. It’s a gripping tale of loyalty, love, treachery, espionage, and the thin and shifting line between fidelity and betrayal.

Customer Review: Amazing story

I've just literally finished this book 5 minutes ago and my first thought was to put a rave review on amazon.com.

What's amazing to me is that having read many books on WWII, this is the first time I've ever read about this double agent. I suppose the Military Secrets act had something to do with it, but surely that's run out after all this time. Possibility the "notoriety" of the subject had something to do with it too.

Here's my rundown of it:

1) The story. The exploits of this man is just absolutely amazing. Not amazing in the derring do exploits a la James Bond, but just amazing in how he pulled it off and his experiences as a whole. I mean that he never had to punch out 5 sentries, stick a bomb under a general's car and then jump off a bridge to escape, but just what he did in the war. Sitting in a comfy chair it's hard to realize in those days how dangerous all of it was. He could have been hauled off for a little fingernail pulling from both sides. I won't summarize the story, which you can get from wiki, but it read like a well written novel.

2) The writing. I think Ben MacIntyre did a great job. The book was easy to read, easy to follow and kept my interest. For a few hours this week, he brought me back into 40's Britain. And I think he did a good job of presenting Chapman, more than that I think he did a fair and unbiased job of presenting Chapman, which was more important. He didn't idolize Chapman, nor did he throw him to the dogs. You got the good with the bad and no punches pulled.

3) Summary. If you are a WWII buff at all, or any kind of WWII spy buff, you need to read this book. Here and there I'd read about the hapless German agents in Britain, but this is really the first British agent I'd read about. A must buy for me, a 10/10. Tom Hanks is supposed to do a film on it, I look forward to it.

Customer Review: excellent true story

One of the best true story accounts I've ever read. Eddie Chapman led an incredible life during the WWII years.

51XQJANTSQL. SL500 Spy Handler: Memoir of a KGB Officer: The True Story of the Man Who Recruited Robert Hanssen and Aldrich AmesIn a memoir more chilling than a John le Carre novel, we meet the senior KGB officer who recruited and handled two of America's most dangerous traitors, and whose career spanned four continents

In his four decades as a KGB officer, Victor Cherkashin was a central player in the shadowy world of Cold War espionage. From his rigorous training in Soviet intelligence in the early 1950s to his prime spot as the KGB's head of counterintelligence at the Soviet embassy in Washington, Cherkashin's career was rich in episode and drama. In a riveting memoir, Cherkashin provides a remarkable insider's view of the KGB's prolonged conflict with the CIA.

Playing a major role in global espionage for most of the Cold War, Cherkashin was posted to stations in the United States, Australia, India, and Lebanon. He tracked down U.S. and British spies around the world. But it was in 1985 that Cherkashin scored two of the KGB's biggest-ever coups. In April of that year, he recruited disgruntled CIA officer Aldrich Ames and became his principal handler. Six months later, FBI special agent Robert Hanssen contacted Cherkashin directly, eventually becoming an even bigger asset than Ames.

In Spy Handler, Cherkashin offers the complete account of how and why both Americans turned against their country, and addresses the rumors of an undiscovered KGB spy-another Hanssen or Ames-still at large in the U.S. intelligence community. Full of vivid detail and dramatic accounts that shed stark new light on the inner workings of the KGB, Spy Handler is a major addition to Cold War history, told by one of its major players.

Customer Review: This is a great read !!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are easy to identify and it isn't just a long list of KGB players during the Cold War (like the Sword & the Shield). The author isn't boastful or cynical, just straight forward.

If you're accustomed to the fantastic, fluff filled world of fiction and want to grow up then this is a good start. But don't mistake the genre of history with fiction, it's just degrading to history.

Customer Review: Fascinating day to day operations in the spy game

This is a fascinating account of day to day operations in the spy game - not a shoot-em-up, but searing reality of the "behind the scenes" in the espionage trade. A great read for anyone interested in Russia, the cold war, and or spies and their trade. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Safer... and thrilled with Sharx Security!

As others have said, this is an admirable, affordable basic security camera. But we all know the real test of a product is the company behind it. If you have a question, how responsive and helpful is that company?

Sharx Security wrote the book on customer service, as far as I'm concerned! I contacted Sharx via e-mail -- late on a Saturday night, if you can believe it -- and had a personal (not auto) reply within a few minutes! It took several e-mails to resolve my question, and each reply from Sharx was timely and thoughtful.

And, yes, Sharx presented an appropriate solution to my question, resisting any temptation to say "That's not our policy" or "We've never done that before, and we're not about to start doing it now!"

Responsive, prompt, flexible, knowledgable... and an American company!

If, in the future, I consider upgrading to a more sophisticated, more expensive security camera, I won't look any further than Sharx Security.

Customer Review: Great Budget Camera

For the price this camera could not be any better. The camera has night vision and a microphone to record audio. A great device, i am very happy with it!

Customer Review: Great book

My son was really looking forward to getting this book and has loved reading it. Thanks very much for a quick and pleasant transaction!

Customer Review: Shredderman Secret Identity

This is a GREAT SERIES for young readers. My third grader coundn't get enough of them. What a wonderful sight it is to see a child so excited about reading. Plus, this author (Wendelin Van Draanen) lives in our area, (Central Coast of CA) so my son has started to read her other books as well. Helping out his neighbor, as he puts it. We found the series at our local library, but had to have a set of our own it was SO GOOD. You can't go wrong with SHREDDERMAN.

51BBPF414EL. SL500 The Craft of Intelligence: Americas Legendary Spy Master on the Fundamentals of Intelligence Gathering for a Free World
If the experts could point to any single book as a starting point for understanding the subject of intelligence from the late twentieth century to today, that single book would be Allen W. Dulles's The Craft of Intelligence. This classic of spycraft is based on Allen Dulles's incomparable experience as a diplomat, international lawyer, and America's premier intelligence officer. Dulles was a high-ranking officer of the CIA's predecessor-the Office of Strategic Services-and was present at the inception of the CIA, where he served eight of his ten years there as director. Here he sums up what he learned about intelligence from nearly a half-century of experience in foreign affairs.
In World War II his OSS agents penetrated the German Foreign Office, worked with the anti-Nazi underground resistance, and established contacts that brought about the Nazi military surrender in North Italy. Under his direction the CIA developed both a dedicated corps of specialists and a whole range of new intelligence devices, from the U-2 high-altitude photographic plane to minute electronic listening and transmitting equipment.
Dulles reveals much about how intelligence is collected and processed, and how the resulting estimates contribute to the formation of national policy. He discusses methods of surveillance, and the usefulness of defectors from hostile nations. His knowledge of Soviet espionage techniques is unrivaled, and he explains how the Soviet State Security Service recruited operatives and planted "illegals" in foreign countries. He spells out not only the techniques of modern espionage but also the philosophy and role of intelligence in a free society threatened by global conspiracies.
Dulles also addresses the Bay of Pigs incident, denying that the 1961 invasion was based on a CIA estimate that a popular Cuban uprising would ensue. This account is enlivened with a wealth of personal anecdotes. It is a book for readers who seek wider understanding of the contribution of intelligence to our national security.

Customer Review: Great information... but incredibly dry.

It's really all in the title. The information available in this book is excellent, reliable, and backed up with anecdotes and references. However, it's very dense and reads like a bureaucratic report, making it difficult to get through. Definitely not a casual read.

Customer Review: Best Fundamental Introduction to CIA or the Intelligence Process in General

This book by the first head of the CIA is a great introduction or overview of the basics of intelligence (with some tradecraft) and the collection and analytical cycles.

It is broad in scope. It covers most all of the bases. The detail and explanation in the foundations and fundamentals are there for the beginning student. If you read one book on intelligence - this is probably it. The focus of this book is on HUMINT.

Webroot Spy Sweeper AntiSpyware

51DRGVC709L. SL500 Webroot Spy Sweeper AntiSpywarePowerful detection, quarantine and deletion. Spy Sweeper protects you with a sophisticated database of spyware definitions, the power to disable spyware, and the knowledge you need to analyze your risks

Customer Review: Over Rated Anti-SpyWare

I bought SpySweeper when suddenly I was plagued with popup fake msgs telling me I had a virus and needed to buy the popups product.

SpySweeper could not remove the malware. The Help Menus and Manual were quite weak with only brief explainations and little real info. The SpySweeper online Knowledge Base is equally poor.

SpySweeper's phone line tech help can handle simple installation problems for their product but you must submit their online request form if you need 'real' SpySweeper help removing malware as I did. However, for and additional $99 you can get "immediate professional assistance." The online (free)process was competent and after 5 days of emails and special software scans the malware was removed. I now know that this is not uncommon when getting rid of malware using any of the Anti spware/Virus programs.

It turns out that these Anti-spyware programs often won't actually STOP intallation of malware. Rather, they will find it later during routine scans and TRY with mixed results to remove it.

You may want to consider a well known free program: SpyBot. It detected my malware just as well as SpySweeper but could not remove the malware either. SpyBot also detected and did remove several other items not reported by SpySweeper. SpyBot's online tech support was equally competent to the spySweeper people. In the end I chose to struggle through the problem using the Spysweeper folks because I had paid $26 for it and I figured they deserved to work through it with me.

Thanks for reading and good luck (honestly) if you have malware to remove

Customer Review: scumware that makes bogus identifications to sell itself

It hijacked my browswer and took me to a promotional website when I tried to uninstall it -- if it behaves like scumware, it is scumware in my book.

As near as I can tell, it does nothing but make users believe that it is busy catching "problems" that other applications don't. THAT is why it is getting positive reviews -- people are being snookered into believing that it is "better spyware" when it appears to do nothing but create false reports on a clean system.

I had turned off my firewall and forgot to turn it back on -- and ended up with one of those search engine hijackers that keeps morphing to make removal difficult. I found advice on some spyware forums where people will guide you step-by-step through manual removal procedures. Being lazy, I was looking for a quicker fix and followed the advice of those who had no technical advice beyond "go here to download SpySweeper."

This annoying application continued to make bogus identifications after I had successfully fixed the problem manually -- it kept identifying non-specific "generic" maybe-potentially-couldbe intrusions. (It also didn't correctly identify the cause of the problem in the first place.) That alone is annoying, but even more annoying is that after making these "generic" identifications, it said that I would need to make a purchase to remove them. When I finally got disgusted enough to uninstall it, it opened my browser and took me to its website to prompt me to purchase it! It behaves exactly like the search engine hijacker that I had removed about two weeks ago!

Others say it sucks -- I have less polite things to say about it.

Customer Review: Fuzzy

Found image to be a little fuzzy, but came up at 640x480 at 12 fps. No documentation with the unit or driver disk, but didn't really need it since it plugs into my laptop and is recognized by MS "Fist-A". I tried to stabilize image by taking off pen bottom and bracing on desktop for test purposes, but it still did not seem like it would be a great utoobish video for uploading and viewing. Sound was clear and decipherable and for an audio recording 8GB pen device it makes it OK in my book. Its possible that I got a defective device (or off QC), but it doesn't make it worthwile to send back for test purpose to see if another would provide better quality.Pictures are same sort of quality, but at advertised resolution. colors seem ok, but not something I'd put in the photo album.
